6/24/11 - Bandwagon/Bad Plus @ Prospect Park

I was out in Brooklyn again last night to catch a really cool performance of The Bandwagon and the Bad Plus on the same stage, at the same time. We were a little late (still learning how to navigate the city) but from the time we got there to the end of the set it was very entertaining.
There was a lot of each instrument (obviously) but in terms of sound, I felt as if the group was able to fill in the spaces well without stepping on each others toes. It was a very unique vibe since sometimes they were playing together and sometimes “at” each other. I couldn’t help but wonder how difficult it must be to pull something like that off. Naturally for me my first question would be, “who calls the shots?”
The drum “duel” was really, REALLY cool. Some people are hard to watch perform because they lack presence, but both of these guys went about killing it with huge smiles on their faces and unmistakable groove.

Wish my camera was better. The lights were very well done, it was a pretty big production and set up. Check out music for yourself at Celebrate Brooklyn, the concert series that takes place in Prospect Park.

hey everyone! so I’m officially trying to start a music/interning in NYC blog for the summer. going to make it nice and legit with posts every week, etc. It would be great if everyone went and followed/subscribed. I appreciate any kind of feedback/advice from other bloggers about getting something like this off the ground and would love if you’d be so kind as to link to me. remember to check out the other blogs I’ve posted in the “favorite blogs” column - they are really great.
Your Morning Shot: Chet Baker
“I have always tried not to let others influence me, and I don’t believe that anyone ever influenced me profoundly. On this point I have been adamant; I wanted at all costs to develop my own personal style.”
