( Amazing speech given at the Juilliard Commencement in May. I really urge everyone who is studying the arts to read it through, it’s exactly what a graduating class (of which some day all of us will be) needs to hear to remember why they are doing what they do. )

my flute teacher asked me once how I “see” music. She told me that to her, music has different colors based on whatever style, texture or ambiance is being portrayed. I’m not sure what my musical visions are - I feel as if i’m either imagining the staff with moving notes or my fingers - but after finding this little link, I better understand what she meant by “seeing colors.”
