Central Park Food Truck: Now With Booze!

6/24/11 - Bandwagon/Bad Plus @ Prospect Park

I was out in Brooklyn again last night to catch a really cool performance of The Bandwagon and the Bad Plus on the same stage, at the same time. We were a little late (still learning how to navigate the city) but from the time we got there to the end of the set it was very entertaining.

There was a lot of each instrument (obviously) but in terms of sound, I felt as if the group was able to fill in the spaces well without stepping on each others toes. It was a very unique vibe since sometimes they were playing together and sometimes “at” each other. I couldn’t help but wonder how difficult it must be to pull something like that off. Naturally for me my first question would be, “who calls the shots?”

The drum “duel” was really, REALLY cool. Some people are hard to watch perform because they lack presence, but both of these guys went about killing it with huge smiles on their faces and unmistakable groove.

Wish my camera was better. The lights were very well done, it was a pretty big production and set up. Check out music for yourself at Celebrate Brooklyn, the concert series that takes place in Prospect Park.

I really want to check this out. really into the whole idea of perception and the use of type to capture inflection and meaning. 

yeah, I know. super nerdy and overly complex. 


I would give the greatest sunset in the world for one sight of New York’s skyline. Particularly when one can’t see the details. Just the shapes. The shapes and the thought that made them. The sky over New York and the will of man made visible. What other religion do we need? And then people tell me about pilgrimages to some dank pesthole in a jungle where they go to do homage to a crumbling temple, to a leering stone monster with a pot belly, created by some leprous savage. Is it beauty and genius they want to see? Do they seek a sense of the sublime? Let them come to New York, stand on the shore of the Hudson, look and kneel. When I see the city from my window - no, I don’t feel how small I am - but I feel that if a war came to threaten this, I would throw myself into space, over the city, and protect these buildings with my body.
