6/25/11 - Mos Def @ Fort Greene Park

My man Mos. This concert marks the third concert I attended last week, all for free, all in Brooklyn. Since this event was an outdoor festival type thing, the crowd was significantly larger than Talib on the Tuesday past, but the vibe was just as cool and just as fun. I kind of expected (only because Kewli had this on Tuesday…) a live band accompanying the DJ, but there wasn’t. I’m not sure if a live band would have helped the sound aspect of the show (the bass was muddy and the treble parts like in “Auditorium” were hard to make out) but then again, it was probably a technical thing.
Besides seeing Mos Def do a healthy 1 hour set, we stumbled upon some other music being housed in New York this summer - Pop-Up Pianos.

As you can see (barely through the unfocused messed that is my camera) the upright was brightly colored with a children’s book type theme, making it a charming addition to the gray slab of the park square. I busted out some make-shit Chopin Mazurka and then proceeded to play the melody from one of the sheets attached to the piano itself. I’ve heard of the pianos being placed through out the city and felt lucky to have found one, without even really looking.
